INTERMEDIATE Traditional timber framing workshop

From the 29th October to the 2nd November 2012 will see our Intermediate timber framing training workshop.

You will have to have done your Basic training workshop to be allowed on this Intermediate training. The reason is simple - the Basic training gives you a good foundation towards timber framing.  During the Intermediate training you will have those skills you learned in the Basic training strengthened and put to the test by crafting a complete frame. The training during this week will include subjects like Designing a timber frame, Challenges when Engineering a timber frame, Selection of timbers for this craft, Conversion of timbers, Scribe Rule techniques applied and of course the Peg making.  We aim to raise a frame at the end of the course.  Particulars for this training workshop will be available shortly.

We look forward to seeing you on this training workshop. Please talk to Isabelle with any questions you may have.

TRAINING WORKSHOPS

Traditional timber framing workshop

During the week of 17 - 21 October 2011 saw another fantastic training workshop where 14 participants from all over Australia came to Carey Gully and learned the basics of traditional timber framing.  The training workshop was held in our Framing Hall in the beautiful Adelaide Hills.

Below are some photos that were taken during this week.  The week was packed with topics like history of timber framing overseas and in Australia, scribe rule explained, design and engineering for frames, timber selection, hands on tools and timber, raising techniques and the opportunity to talk to our experienced timber frames during a casual BBQ.

It all starts with just a few lines on some untouched timber.
