Tenon - a projection at the end of a piece of wood inserted into the socket or mortise of another to hold the two together. Mortise - a hole made to receive a tenon. This joint is then secured with wooden pegs. This method of construction does not require glues or nails in the framework. Timber Wood is one of the longest serving building materials in human history - from simple hideouts made of branches and leaves to the sophisticated structures of the modern day. Nature provides us with an extensive variety of timbers, each with their own qualities and characteristics. We endeavour to obtain our timbers from eco-forests or plantations as well as salvaged timbers. Our preference in timbers are narrow leafed red ironbark and cypress macrocarpa, both of which are durability class 1, have a low shrinkage rate and are termite resistant. The sourcing of recycled timbers is quite a challenge in these times and unfortunately also wears a price tag. We have special arranegements when we work with recycled timber. Please ask us.
