History

Pegged mortice and tenon timber framing is an ancient building form. Large-section timbers are crafted to create a structural framework which is pegged together using hand-crafted wooden pegs.

The craft is centuries old, with the earliest example of this form of joinery dating back to 950 AD. Traditional timber framing techniques can be seen in a wide variety of buildings world-wide - from simple barns and dwellings to cathedrals that are awe-inspiring in their complexity.
